OFFBOARD® Family of Shields are vermin restriction devices.  The rat shields are spring-loaded devices created to easily insert on boat mooring lines or overhead utility lines to keep critters such as rats, mice and iguanas away. The OFFBoard® Rat Shields can be used on lines from 3/8 inch to 2.5 inches in diameter.  The Shields use our patented spring door that opens and closes on the line allowing easy installation and removal. Once closed the stainless steel spring keeps the door closed and in place. The shields are engineered not to damage the line but firmly grip it.

The secret in the design of our Shield is how vermin navigate. Rats and mice are nocturnal. They can not see more than 6 inches ahead but can smell 100 time better than humans. They leave a scent trail whereever they go so they can find their way back to the nest. Multiple vermin use the same scent trail. So, if the trail is broken or not established, they can not find their way. Therefore, even if they can reach the edge of the OFFBoard® Shield, they won’t jump further because they can’t see the line on the other side and risk loosing their ability to navigate. The OFFBOARD® Rat Shield is an elegantly simple and superior design using the vermins natural tendencies against itself.

Place an OFFBoard® Shield on the hanger just above the feeder to keep it from being raided. Either the 10 inch or the 15 inch sizes are available for any size birdfeeder. Works on rope wire, or chain hangers.

Easy to install. Open the spring hinge door, slip it on the hanger just above the feeder. Close the door. The patented stainless steel spring keeps the door closed and little critters can't open it. The OFFBoard® Shield also keeps snow and ice off the feeder too.
